It is very important for people to realize that there is an obvious threat of global warming. The temperature is rising every year repeatedly. Many people sometimes to joke around say that it would be better if it were a bit warmer but to tell you the truth it would be extremely harmful for our environment. If the ice located in the poles start to melt it might cover a good chunk of earth under water. Therefore, it is threatening our future existence. We cannot think just in present.

We are directly responsible for the current situation. Our pollution is destroying the earth. It is creating a tremendous imbalance in our environment. We can already see some impacts of global warming right in Canada. For instance, the summer is becoming much hotter and winter milder. As a result we are seeing a way more insects and mosquitoes in Toronto than before.

I believe we need to combat global warming fast. It is very evident that even though the governments all over the world always talk about reduction in emissions of pollutants we actually end up seeing almost no positive results. That is because there is not enough understanding among the normal people about this phenomenon. We do not understand the seriousness of this matter. Therefore, the first step would be to get educated on global warming.

After that, we will have to take actions by ourselves at home to reduce global warming. Even though it looks like you are one out of millions of people out there but think if everyone would contribute in the reduction then we would see a huge success. We can start by decreasing waste of water. It is always smart to turn off the water in your sink if you are not using. Save water in this way! In Canada, we are privileged that we have a huge reserve of water but many parts of the world do not have that access. In addition, we can also make sure that we are saving power as well. If you are not home and do not need the air conditioner, turn that off. AC is one of the major sources of global warming. Furthermore, we need to make sure that we are driving cars with good engine so that it is not eating away a way too much petroleum. This step will also save you lots of money. Start looking into the hybrid cars if you haven’t started. If possible, you can also think about taking public transit. Finally, planting trees is an option. It improves the beauty of your house.

There are many things we can do by ourselves and therefore, we need to start on those fast and encourage others to do the same.
