World's Oldest Website!
By Arnab on Sep 16, 2007 in Life
There are millions of small or big sites up in the net. It makes us wonder which one is the oldest site of all. The oldest registered domain is “Symbolics.com” This was registered on March 1985. Other big companies such as microsoft registered their domain on 1987. Other companies did not jump into web before the early 1990s. If you visit Symbolics.com you will not find anything interesting. Looking back using archive.org, I could not find anything interesting in the past either. Nevertheless, try looking at their ranking. Alexa ranking is 308,381 and PR is 5. Therefore, it is true that as your site becomes older you start
getting hits automatically.

Now, eventhough the oldest domain is symbolics.com, the oldest website is “http://nxoc01.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html” This website is not available anymore. However, you can find the 1992 version of the site from here…

Hey
Interesting article. Yes I believe that the length of registration of the domain will surely increase the page rank.
It would be interesting to see what some of the oldest email addresses are.
Personally I registered mine in august 1996 when hotmail was just a month old. This was via the student account from vsnl over a hypertext browser.

it does look like a company. however, they haven’t updated their site in a long time. It’s the same design always. I can’t believe how can you not update your site when you got world’s oldest domain name!

I don’t know about the oldest web site, or e-mail address. However, how about the oldest e-mail message. My friends and I have been circulating a Happy New Year’s message each year since 1985. Anyone have an older e-mail in their in-box?

Yes, domain age it matters, but not the most important today. The age of your links and the age of your content what it really matters.
