More, More, More Republicans!

This might have sounded crazy one year back but the US might actually end up with four more years of Republicans. The Republican Party, thanks to Bush not really liked among majority of the Americans. Many of the republicans even leaning towards Ron Paul, who can hardly be considered a Republican. Therefore, the Republicans are more or less confused. CNN talks about this repeatedly. On the conservative side, you got the social conservatives (gay/women/minority hating bunch) and then you have the financial conservative asking for more free market initiatives. There seems to be pretty strong split in their ideology.

I actually find the Republican Party is sort of in a weird alliance between the business and religious community. I am not sure why would a religious person favour a free market policy while religions itself favour a big government in control of people’s spiritual and everyday life. Christianity itself asks for compassion for the poor and needy. Religious people should actually favour a strong socialist policy. On the other hand, why would a business oriented person favour a strong religious views. Business itself is all about profit but on the other hand religions ask you to give up personal greed and work for the greater good of the humanity. I don’t really think this alliance between these two communities is strong enough. We are currently seeing that split. The social conservatives going towards Huckabee and I guess “financial” and “war” conservatives leaning towards McCain. I personally liked Romney because he was not trying to attract the people from the extremists side. However, McCain might be a better choice for Republicans simply because he is also popular among liberals especially with his social policies.

Anyways, while you got someone like McCain, who is liked among the Democrats, you got two candidates among the democrats, who are both liked and disliked by many people. Many Clinton supporters do not like Obama. They would rather vote for McCain if Obama wins. The reason is because they love Clinton passionately and they were looking forward to have Clinton as the president. Obama might actually destroy that chance and therefore, these people are going to go against Obama. On the other hand, a lot of Obama supporters simply hate Hillary because these supporters love Obama with passion. If the nominee decisions come down to the hands of the court, people will see a strong split among the Democrats. That might actually really help McCain and conservatives. Many democrats already like him and they might end up voting for him. Therefore, we might actually see a democrat winning the whitehouse again for four years. This seems unlikely but you never know what happens in the future.
