India has been a little late on this however India is sending unmanned mission to moon for the first time.

I think it is a significant step from India’s part. This mission costs only around 70 million. That is MUCH cheaper than other missions carried out by the western world. India also wants to send men to moon by 2020.

A lot of people seem to be complaining because India and China are pursuing space while those two countries have problems with poverty.

Well, that’s a baseless complain from the people, who don’t know a lot on the Indian goal behind space program. India earns lots of money from Antrix corporation, which is the commercial wing of the Indian Space Research Organization. This is a very smart business plan. Money from Antrix Corporation funds Indian space research. Therefore, the government doesn’t need to cut funds off from poverty to fund space research.

This mission to moon will bring in lots more money since the world would be interested to know how did India was able to pull it off with only around 70 million dollars. Not to mention this probe is also carrying lots of research materials for NASA.

Therefore, before jumping on the complain boat, let’s please do some research.

I found this really nice lecture by Rick Falkvinge, an entrepreneur and widely known as the leader of the Pirate Party of Sweden. This is part of Google TechTalk initiative. I know it’s kind of long but it is extremely helpful. It explains the problems of aggressive copyright legislatures that the rich corporations are trying to shove down our throats using our governments. Rick came all the way from Sweden for this talk. Please watch it.

Ok so as Michael Geist informed us, the copyright law introduction has been delayed. This is what he has to say.

The word this afternoon is that Industry Minister Jim Prentice will not introduce the Canadian DMCA tomorrow. The thousands of letters and phone calls over the past week have urged the government to adopt balanced copyright reforms that meets everyone’s needs and does not unduly harm education, consumer rights, privacy, and free speech. The delay provides an exceptional opportunity for Minister Prentice to consult more broadly and to factor those concerns into the forthcoming bill in the interests of all Canadians.

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that people made a strong noise about this issue. The facebook group got more than 14,000 members in one week. A lot of bloggers started writing about this issue. I wrote to my local MP as well. However, I am not sure if we should start celebrating about this yet. Michael Geist has clarified that he is not sure why the introduction has been delayed. It could be that it was just delayed for a couple of days. Maybe this deal might be introduced tomorrow.

To tell you the truth, I am just too excited to see what is going to happen next. If Harper introduces this then for sure his party will not be coming to power in next 12 years. It’s sort of like a political suicide for him. We also shouldn’t forget that our previous Liberal government also tried to do something similar. However, they failed. I am pretty sure that these Corporate Conservatives will fail too.

For now, here is an interesting video made by a musical artist from Montreal expressing his views on this drama. This law is supposed to protect people like him. Let’s see what he has to say.

He named the photograph “heliograph.” It took 8 hours to take the picture. It is not known however exactly how he took the photo. People are thinking that he used pewter plate coated with bitumen (a petroleum that is sensitive to light). Then he waited 8 hours letting this dry and harden. After that he washed it with white petroleum and lavender oil. It washed away the undissolved bitumen which didn’t see the light. Here is the picture

In Ontario, the provincial election battle ground always comes down to education. According to the Toronto Star poll, education costs is the most important issue for the people with 26% with money for the cities and taxes in 22%. Therefore, all the parties need to worry about education more than other issues.

As the election campaign is rolling, I am finding more and more evidence that NDP seems to be the only party with ideas on education. They seem to be the only one that atleast tries to connect with the university students. Howard Hampton promises tuition fee rollback to 2003-2004 academic year before McGuinty took over. NDP also promises a tuition fee freeze helping the university students save $460 every year. Tuition fee freeze is important because we are paying too much in university. Provinces such as Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Québec and Newfoundland and Labrador already introduced tuition fee freeze.

I still remember McGuinty in TV breaking one after another promise. When he was in the opposition he talked “on behalf on 1000s of students” but then when he took over he decided to side with the corporations forgetting students. This video is correct showing that during his time the university was not this expensive.

Not just education, he broke his promise in raising taxes and many other sectors. He does not deserve a second chance in my opinion. Then we have the tories supporting public faith based schools. I think if the education is public then all the public should receive the same education. Put this money into public board rather than faith schools.

It’s actually good that we are going to have a minority government with NDP holding the balance of power. Therefore, a lot of NDP policies will get introduced in the budget.

There is a popular speculation that reinforcement leads to improvement in learning and behaving in classrooms. I would like to add to this point that not only classrooms use reinforcements but also many parents are encouraged to use reinforcements as a part of their children’s learning tool. For example, behaving accordingly at home or finishing up the homework early. In the book “Short-Term Play Therapy for Children” (Kaduson & Schaefer, 2000) the author mentions that if a child has a fear of going to bed alone using small rewards such as stickers can help him to achieve the goal.

I think that the use of reinforcement is an excellent way to get children active in classroom and as well as in their family and learn from different lessons. However, on the other side as Wolfgang mentioned a child might get used to the reinforcement and would want a reward after any activity he does or he can also purposefully misbehave in class hoping to get an offer for reinforcement. A solution to this problem can be more use of social or intrinsic reinforcements. Penny Mukherji, the author of “Understanding Children’s Challenging Behavior” (2001), suggested that children should get used to the intrinsic reinforcement more because as they grow older, children will come across more situations that does not have an immediate reward for behaving well. A positive comment can encourage a child with certain activity and later on they can moderate their own behavior by themselves.

Developing children can sometimes be hard to maintain and reinforcement is one of the way to teach them proper lessons. Appropriate practice with reinforcement can provide with learning developments in children including special education needs and increase actively participation in classrooms. The three different types of reinforcement can characterized as social, activity and tangible and they are illustrated by positive comments, pleasurable activities and rewards. Some argue that using reinforcements can lead to bribes, lower intrinsic motivation, and unequal use. However, using them effectively can result in successful learning with analyzing behavior identification, proper selection of reinforces, implementation, and evaluation and fading. Selecting the appropriate reinforcement can be hard when considering a child’s personality, needs and capabilities but its practice can improve a child’s development and learning

Getting steady readers and visitors to your blog is very important. Not all blogs get them. The secret of getting those steady readers is to focus strongly on one area. For instance, if you are a tech blogger, then focus on technology as much as possible. If you are a political blogger then it would be politics that you would be focusing on. If your blog is too general then it might be a little hard for you to get exposure. For instance, we know microsoft for softwares rather than an entertainment site. You need to get a focus like that. If you look at successful bloggers, then you will find the same. For instance, when you talk about the blog of “Michelle Malkin” then you know that this is a political blog. You will have to get a focus oriented blog like that.

Now, which types of blogs make the most fame and money? Well, look at the popular ranking blogs at Technorati. As you can see that a majority of the successful blogs are actually tech blogs. Whatever political or entertainment blogs that you have there are by either professional journalists or group blogs. Does that mean tech blogs are best in the business? Well, think of this in a different way. The people, who are successful at blogging are the people, who are strongly interested on technology. These people do not get the most out of their blogs because they are blogging about technologies but because they are doing something that they have a high interest on. Now, offcourse people with a high interest on technology will have a greater understanding of increasing their blogging fame and so they get this natural advantage of earning the most. It comes down to the personality of the author rather than the type of blog I believe. People, who browse many blogs, post comments, have a positive attitude, and most importantly blogging about something that they really love would get the most of their blogs. Let’s discover the prospect of non-tech blogs.

Political blogs: I was reading at a newspaper a few days back that majority of the bloggers are white conservative men. Well, this is true. The top two popular political blogs at Technorati are actually rightwing blogs. I have also seen conservative blogging communities such as bloggingtories are a way ahead of their “progressive” counterparts in both content and exposure. Therefore, there is a very strong “market” for political blogs. Your blogs do no need to be conservative blog but you can attract those people in your blog to argue with them. Sometimes, I have seen in political blogs, low ranking blogs have a huge amount of comment posted than the tech blogs.

Entertainment Blogs: Entertainment gossip and hottest news will give you many visitors. Sometimes people would just come to your blog to check out the pictures of hot actress you have. You can actually use the “sex appeal” method here without admitting it. There are not many entertainment blogs and so there is a good chance that your blog might suddenly get exposed to MTV or other entertainment tv channels.

Religious Blogs: Religion is a very heated matter now-a-days. Basically, the reason of religion, if we need this ancient element in our life or not and many more things create heat everyday in many blogs. If you can someway get the atheists and christians or muslims and jews fighting in your blog that would be really cool.

Daily Blog: Some people blog everyday just to share their everyday experience. These blogs might also do good if you can write posts with a humourous touch. People would visit you everyday to see what new and weird stuff you have faced in your life. People always love to invade others privacy and now they can do it with “permission.” Therefore, you might get quite a few daily readers for your blog using this technique.

There are many other types of blogs like photo blogs, video blogs, humourous blogs etc. Photo blogging is very interesting and I will write a post on this very soon. Therefore, it doesn’t matter what kind of blog you run just make sure you have the greatest interest on it. You will have to waste hours on this blog and you really do not want this to be something you do not enjoy doing.

Before I start, this blog has reached one month of age. Thanks to my friends, Kotha and Nick for posting regularly helping to reach one month. I also want to thank everyone who has visited and enjoyed our writings.

Anyways, I bought my current desktop two years back. I had the choice of getting a new desktop or a new laptop. I decided to go with the desktop and stick with my old laptop. There are tons of good reasons why still you should prefer a desktop over a laptop. This is true that a laptop gives you the flexibility of carrying your computer wherever you go. There are other related positive things that I can think of. For instance, it looks cool. Anyways, there are also equally good reasons why you should consider a desktop over a laptop if you had to decide between these two. It is more important if you are currently going to college.

Picture: My Study Table

Sperm: Okay I guess I have to talk about this first since I mentioned it at the topic. The name is “LapTop” but NEVER put LapTop in your “Lap.” It is very important for males because laptop releases heat and that is very bad for your sperm cells. If you like your genitalia do not use too much laptop on your lap. If you do use it in your lap them make sure that you are putting the laptop at a safe distance. With a desktop, you can make your sperm happy.

Cost: Laptops cost a lot compared to desktop. With the same prize you will get a very nice desktop with much more facilities. Desktop also allows you to use different types of monitors and others. With your laptop you are stuck with whatever was provided to you. If you want to upgrade your laptop, you will have to waste so much money. On the other hand, upgrading desktop is not a big hassle and they are made in such a way that you can easily add or modify current configurations. In addition, a desktop will ALWAYS last longer than a laptop. You will eventually have to take your laptop for fixing within 2-3 years. You will be saving quite an amount of money with laptop.

Memory: This is not as much of a problem as it used to be before as we are seeing more and more laptops with very strong memory. However, there are many programs that you would still prefer a desktop to perform. One of the very important reasons why I bought my new desktop because I wanted to do video editing. I love working with videos and laptops are not at all good for that purpose. I have tried with laptop but most of them seem to screw up the quality. In addition, laptops are not good for playing games. I loved playing games before. I lost interest on games now. Anyways, if you like want to use programs that take up huge memory, go for a desktop.

Theft: Laptop getting stolen is a very regular thing for people. I remember I was at my university library once and this Chinese dude was sitting right beside me. He left his laptop and went somewhere. When he came back, he found his laptop being stolen. Unfortunately, I was a way too occupied with my studies and failed to notice the thief, who stole his laptop. You do not have to worry about things like these with your desktop

Studies: Some people think that laptop gives them the flexibility of taking computer to their classes and take notes. Well, to tell you the truth, that never happens. If you bring your laptop to the lecture halls, you will be occupied with MSN/Yahoo, porn, movie, games etc rather than the actual lectures. I still prefer using the traditional ways of using paper and pen to take notes. However, I do transfer my notes into computer after I get home. I do not take my laptop with me into the lecture halls.

1) The most important thing to remember is to make slow loading websites. Extremely long pages also slow down your page. Therefore, you can use that.

2) Your text should not be well organized throughout your site and have as many grammar mistakes as possible.

3) Use random fonts with random sizes

4) You should have a background music that the visitors cannot turn off.

5) Have some crazy background colour with flashy animations all over this. Make it look girly.

6) Design a website that can only be viewed best with a certain browser along with certain screen resolutions

7) Never update your site. If you do not update your site, you know that eventually people will just stop coming to your site

8 ) Have advertisements all over the place. It’s not your visitors but money that should come first. Also have popups from all those casino places.

9) Post up an “under-construction” size at the top. That should get rid off 60% of your visitors right away.

I am listing 9 ways you can protect your precious computer and your work from various virus and spyware.

1) Always use an anti-virus software. Norton Antivirus might be the most widely used one at this point but there are other good ones. Use this anti-virus program, this is extremely important.

2) Use a firewall. Firewall can be a little annoying when your program constantly asking you for permission before doing anything. However, these firewall programs have improved quite a bit and they are not as annoying as they used to be. A firewall comes with Norton and so if you buy the whole package, you will get one. In addition, both Windows XP and Vista have firewalls built in within them. Those are pretty good too. However, you should be careful because many of the creators of these spywares like to attack the windows operating system since a lot of people are using them. Therefore, I suggest you to use a separate commercial firewall rather than using the windows provided ones.

3) Use legal softwares only. Illegal softwares you should avoid. By using legal softwares you can also make sure that you have the most recent copy of the software. In this way, you decrease the amount of attacks on your computer.

4) Along with an anti-virus program and firewall, use an anti-spyware. There are free softwares out there for both anti-virus and anti-spyware, but becareful in downloading the free ones. That would be the next point.

5) Many softwares you can download are free but they are free because some of them contain virus or they might act as trojans. Therefore, only download free softwares from reliable sources. By looking at a website, you should be able to say if the website contains legit softwares or not.

6) Visit only safe sides. Many porn sites have trojans and so when you visit them those programs are injected in your computer. That’s why you should be careful. Most of the times, your antivirus program should be able to catch these programs but if your program fails to detect you will have to suffer.

7) Some people also recommend not to click on popups. However, if you think a popup is advertising for a legitimate website, then go ahead check it out.

8 ) Becareul with the email attachments. Before downloading/opening attachments do a virus check to see if they are safe. Attachments that you receive in your bulk mail folder are to be ignored. That is because almost all of them have trojans. Therefore, the best thing to do would be not to open attachments from people you do not know.

9) In the case where you have been attacked by virus, remove them as soon as possible. You also should have some backup copies of your data so that you do not end up loosing everything if you need to reformat your computer to get rid off the virus.
